Watford hope for Chakvetadze return in September
Watford hope Georgia international Giorgi Chakvetadze will finally return to action next month following a frustrating injury Hornets playmaker has not been available since April because of what the club describe as a "complex" bone issue in his foot, the result of "overload and repetitive impacts".Chakvetadze first joined Watford on loan from KAA Gent in the summer of 2023 before making the move permanent and has established himself as one of the best players in the club stated the 25-year-old reported early for pre-season training but the injury is in a "slow-healing area". A statement continued: "A scan in June showed the issue was still present but less severe, so he was phased progressively back into the main group last month and was scheduled to play some part in the friendly win against Deportivo."However, Chakvetadze reported pain after five sessions and, as a precaution, was re-scanned."After consultation with industry-leading foot experts, a period of non-impact and work on strength and conditioning only has been advised for six weeks, two of which will be during the first international break."He will have another scan at the end of that period with a view to re-joining the first-team squad if it is has made 78 appearances for Watford - who began the new season with a 1-0 defeat by Charlton Athletic - and has scored three goals.

Mainz's Hong Hyun-seok set for Ligue 1 loan
Kicker reports that Mainz midfielder Hong Hyun-seok is set to be loaned out to Nantes. The 14-times-caped Taeguk international only just joined his current Bundesliga outfit from KAA Gent last season. After starting his initial four Bundesliga fixtures under Mainz head coach Bo Henriksen, Hong didn't earn another league start after September of 2024. Hong wrapped up the 2024/25 campaign with 23 league appearances, 19 of them coming in relief. The South Korean's estimated market value plummeted from €9m to €3.5m over the last twelve months. Mainz paid Gent €4m to acquire Hong from the Belgian Pro League side last autumn. He was the German club's most expensive summer signing. Hong never really managed to catch on in the way intended with the Palatinate Club. South Korean teammate Lee Jae-sung continued to thrive while Hong simply couldn't gain traction. Paul Nebel's rise, along with the summer additions of Benedict Hollerbach and Sota Kawasaki, further diminished Hong's prospects of gaining playing time. Kicker reports that Mainz are set to net a €400,000 loan fee as part of the transaction. Hong remains under contract with the Rheinhessen until 2028. Mainz sporting CEO Christian Heidel has directly confirmed Hong's impending loan out to the German magazine. GGFN |

Gent, Rangers and more: Clubs circle for FC Volendam defender
KAA Gent are reportedly looking for defensive reinforcements and have their sights set on FC Volendam's Xavier Mbuyamba. Fabrizio Romano has reported that the FC Barcelona and Chelsea youth academy product is attracting considerable foreign interest. According to Romano, Gent aren't the only side showing interest. Scottish club Rangers are also reportedly intrigued by the defender. While the Glasgow team are already seen as a strong competitor for Gent, several clubs in England are also monitoring Mbuyamba. It was recently revealed that Southampton and Watford have targeted him. The latter were also linked with Mbuyamba two years ago. There has also been interest from Turkey, Italy, and Poland. Advertisement With the chances of Mbuyamba staying at Volendam slim, Heen en Weer is reportedly willing to let the defender go. With a market value of one million euros and the fact that he is entering the final year of his contract, he appears to be an affordable alternative for several clubs. Mbuyamba could leave Volendam for half a million euros. GBeNeFN | Max Bradfield

Video: Fenerbahce mock Milan as they announce Brown's transfer
Turkish side Fenerbahce mocked Milan in a video released to confirm Archie Brown's signing. Fenerbahce confirmed the signing of English left-back Brown on Saturday night, with a video where they mocked Milan, which had also attempted to sign the 23-year-old. (Photo by) Both Fenerbahce and Milan had sent a private jet to Belgium to pick the player up, but Brown eventually chose the Turkish club. This is why Fenerbahce showed two aeroplanes at the very beginning of Brown's unveiling video. The Fenerbahce video also showed Brown listening to an Italian radio program announcing his move to Milan, but the 23-year-old asked to change station, and that's when a recorded voice announced his arrival in Istanbul and his move to Fenerbahce.
